How does garage design impact strength and function?

Different garage designs affect both structural strength and usability of the internal space. Designs that avoid knee braces provide more usable space, especially in low-stud buildings where braces can be intrusive. Strong portal frame construction and appropriate material selection are key factors in achieving both durability and functionality.

Garages at Great Prices

Q: What height do I need when designing a garage?

The required height depends on the vehicles you plan to store. Roller door opening height is critical, and a general guideline is to allow around 500mm above the opening height for the door roll to achieve the correct stud height.

Q: What garage design is easiest to build?

Single-column portal frame garages are typically the easiest to build. They are simple to assemble, allow for easier alignment and use cut-to-length materials with pre-punched connections, making the overall build process faster and more straightforward.

Garages NZ – Why Price, Materials & Strength Vary

Kitset garages vary in price from one company to another. Most suppliers in New Zealand are building extra light kits to stay competitive, yet weather patterns seem to be becoming more severe. In many cases, pricing is influenced by sales-driven business models with high overheads, where staying competitive often means offsetting costs through lighter designs, less material, and reduced structural strength.

Garages Built for New Zealand Conditions

The right garage depends on what you want to use it for, whether that is storing vehicles, housing a boat or caravan, or creating a proper workshop and storage space. We design each garage around the way you need to use it, with the size, door openings and layout suited to your requirements.

Each building is engineered for its exact location and designed to handle New Zealand conditions, including wind zones, snow loads, earthquake requirements and ground conditions. Using quality NZ-made products and materials, we can build a garage that works properly for your property and the way you intend to use it.

Custom Garages Built Around Your Needs

We can build a garage around what you actually need, rather than expecting you to make your requirements fit a standard layout. Whether it is for vehicles, storage, a workshop, or a combination of uses, we can help you work out the right size, layout and access before you commit to the building.

Fully Customizable Garage Designs

Our garages can be customized with different roller doors, PA doors, windows, ranch sliders and internal layouts. You can use our 3D design tool to experiment with your own configuration and see how the building comes together before we finalise the design.

Choosing the Right Garage

Picking the right style comes down to three things: how you plan to use it, the look you’re after, and your budget.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’re incredibly grateful to Kitset Sheds Limited for their generous support of local performing arts in Tauranga. Their sponsorship of our production of The Places You’ll Go made a huge difference and helped bring this show to life for our community.

It’s fantastic to see a local business not only supporting the arts financially but also getting involved in community events and backing creative opportunities for young performers. Their generosity, encouragement, and belief in what we do has been amazing.

Thank you, Kitset Sheds Limited, for investing in the arts and helping make performing opportunities possible for our community. Your support truly means a lot!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Paul Wiiliams always had a smiling face with great work ethic. Our 10 year old shed has doubled in value. We now live in the legal cottage attached to the garaging. But previously it was rented out. Best thing we ever did.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I built a kitset shed in 2025 (4 bays, 16.25m x 8.9m) and it was a total blast! The kit instructions were excellent, and anything I didn't fully understand I was able to phone Paul and get the answer quickly. The shed is now complete and being set up as an engineering workshop. I can't wait to get some projects going. I highly recommend Kitset Sheds Ltd and owner Paul Williams (no relation to me) for their helpfulness, excellent communication, speedy delivery, excellent product and overall ease to deal with.
