Kitset garages vary in price from one company to another. Most suppliers in New Zealand are building extra light kits to stay competitive, yet weather patterns seem to be becoming more severe. In many cases, pricing is influenced by sales-driven business models with high overheads, where staying competitive often means offsetting costs through lighter designs, less material, and reduced structural strength.
How does garage design impact strength and function?
Different design approaches affect both strength and how practical the internal space is to use. Our garages are designed without the need for knee braces. We use two brackets at the knee connection with a heavy gauge single-column portal frame. We avoid using back-to-back light-gauge double columns, as these designs require knee braces for strength.
In low-stud buildings, knee braces are intrusive and get in the way.

What sort of garage are you looking for
The first consideration is the height of the vehicles you plan to store inside. The roller door opening height is key. As a general rule, allow around 500mm above the opening height for the door roll to achieve the ideal stud height.
Through years of building sheds and garages, we’ve found single-column portal frames are fast and simple to assemble. Top hats are adjustable by design, making it easier to get the building plumb and straight. With cut-to-length cladding and pre-punched framing for bolts, the overall build process is quick and straightforward.
