Whether your shed is in a rural, commercial, or residential setting, NZ Steel’s Colorsteel Maxam range offers a wide selection of colors to suit your environment.
If cost is a priority, we can also supply sheds in Zincalume, which is a more cost-effective option.
What is Colorsteel and why is it used for sheds?
COLORSTEEL® is a pre-painted steel product where paint is oven-cured onto ZINCALUME® steel base. This is done using a continuous “coil-to-coil” process at New Zealand Steel’s Glenbrook mill.
New Zealand Steel is the country’s sole producer of flat rolled steel products for the construction industry. Colorsteel is made specifically for our local NZ conditions and is widely used for shed cladding because it’s durable, provides unparalleled corrosion resistance and has a high-quality finish.
Genuine NZ Colorsteel MAXAM®
We use genuine Colorsteel MAXAM®, which utilizes advanced paint system with ACTIVATE® Technology to deliver one of the highest quality steel claddings available. It starts with a base metal thickness of 0.4mm and is backed by Steel & Tube’s Warranty Plus. Colorsteel MAXAM® is designed to handle harsh environments, including coastal and rural conditions.

In residential and lifestyle areas, color choice plays an important role. Your shed can be complemented with different colors for flashings, doors, and trims. We have experience going back to 2004 and always were happy to discuss options and provide samples to help you make the right choice.

Genuine New Zealand Colorsteel is specifically designed and tested for local NZ conditions, including high UV levels, coastal environments, and changing weather. It is manufactured in New Zealand and backed by local warranties and support.
Imported color steel can vary in quality and is made for different climates. It will fade faster may not have the same level of corrosion resistance or long-term performance in New Zealand conditions, particularly in coastal or rural areas.
Colorsteel cladding is designed for long-term durability, with warranties typically starting from around 15 years and extending further depending on the environment.
With proper installation and maintenance, it can last for decades. A lifespan of 30 to 50 years is not unrealistic in many New Zealand conditions.
